fall 2026 Class Descriptions
-
Come learn about character creation, comic strip writing, and basic storyboarding for animation. Teacher Amy will provide personalized guidance, offer drawing techniques tailored to each student's unique skills and preferences, and explore cartoon styles from around the world. For those interested, there will be an opportunity to create their own book and participate in an exhibition at an art museum or local library. Students will be provided a materials list in advance.
-
This is a mixed-age class, and projects will be tailored to each student's experience and preferences. We will explore hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling, and slab construction. Students will use underglaze and glaze to decorate bisque-fired pieces, and Saturday students will also have the opportunity to try wheel throwing. Throughout the course, we will encourage students to step outside their comfort zones and challenge their creativity.
-
This class encourages creativity and self-expression through art and fashion. Students will explore fashion drawing, color matching, fabric exploration, and clothing design. They will sketch ideas, design outfits on dress forms, and create their own fashion pieces to take home. Throughout the course, students will also build a small inspiration notebook by collecting fabrics, textures, and design ideas.

Using the EngageNY curriculum, this class helps students build strong math foundations through concept instruction and guided practice. Lessons are tailored to each student's level, providing support where needed while also challenging students with more advanced material. The class focuses on developing problem-solving skills, strengthening core math concepts, and building confidence in math learning.
-
Using the Singapore Math curriculum, this class introduces key middle school math topics including algebra, ratios, coordinate grids, expressions with negative numbers, geometry concepts such as volume, area, and surface area, as well as introductory statistics and probability. Singapore Math emphasizes deep conceptual understanding and problem-solving, helping students build strong mathematical thinking rather than simply memorizing procedures. This class is a great fit for students entering or currently in 6th grade who want to build confidence and feel well-prepared for middle school math.
-
A beginner-friendly class where students learn to create their own 2D video games using the Godot game engine. No prior coding experience is needed — students just need to be able to read and use a mouse and keyboard. Each session introduces a new game development concept, and students build projects step by step as the semester progresses. Returning students are welcome to explore their own creative directions within each lesson's topic. There will be fun and challenging extension activities for those who have already taken the class! It's a great way for kids to develop logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while making something they're genuinely excited about.
-
In this hands-on design class, students learn to model detailed 3D armor pieces using tools like TinkerCAD and AI-powered 3D generation software. They'll learn to take body measurements and form-fit designs to their own proportions, engineer structural supports so intricate designs survive the printing process, and combine and edit models from existing 3D libraries. Throughout the semester, students will 3D print their custom armor pieces and finish them by hand — sanding, priming, and painting to create wearable, polished final products they can take home.
-
Basic chess instruction and introduction to fundamental concepts.
-
Students should already know the names of the pieces and how they move. Structure: Each class includes instruction at the beginning, followed by guided play. Topics include opening principles, notation, basic middlegame tactics, and endgames.

Unlock your child's potential with our Abacus Math Enrichment Program, where traditional abacus techniques meet modern STEM learning. Students develop fast mental calculation skills and learn Anzan — the ability to perform multi-digit mental math by visualizing numbers. Through structured practice methods such as Flash Anzan and oral dictation, students build accuracy, speed, and confidence at their own pace. This hands-on program also strengthens focus, memory, and overall cognitive development, supporting both academic success and a growth mindset.
